Hump Day Highpoint - Week 4

Imagine hiking hundreds of miles along the Appalachian trail. You've slogged your way from way down south and have entered Maine. You are so close to the end, you can taste it. Unfortunately, you're met with this sign:

That's right, Maine's highest point, Katahdin, is located in a 100 mile section of wilderness. Nothing says "Abandon All Hope" then a sign pointing out a 100 mile hike with mountain at the end. Maine is not just known for its delicious lobsters, large blueberry crops and its general shroud of mystery to those anywhere southwest of Massachusetts. Katahdin is over 5,000 ft tall and is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

According to the Park Authority, Katahdin has claimed 19 lives since 1963, 80% of which involved straying from the trail (No word on how the other 3.8 people died). "Leaving the trail" would seem to indicate guaranteed death, as Katahdin features something known as "The Knife Edge".

You can be assured that the SHTTT will be climbing along the Knife Edge, as it sounds too awesome to skip. You can also rest assured that we will be sticking to the trail, because i'm not really sure where else there is to go, but down.
